Amaluna: Cirque du Soleil Show Brings the Goddesses

The big top will once again grace the southwest skyline of Winnipeg when Amaluna comes to town from September 14 to October 20, 2019.

A Mysterious Island Ruled by Goddesses

After directing her daughter’s coming of age ceremony, honouring femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance, Queen Prospera causes a storm.A group of young men wash up on the isle, triggering an epic love story between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. Theirs is a love that will be tested.

The cast of Amaluna comprise a majority of female, including a 100% female band.“Amaluna is a tribute to the work and voice of women,” explains Director of Creation Fernand Rainville. “The show is a reflection on balance from a woman’s perspective,“ he adds. Show Director Diane Paulus says: “I didn’t want to build a ‘women’s agenda’ show. I wanted to create a show with women at the center of it, something that had a hidden story that featured women as the heroines.”

The Cirque tent has almost become a summer staple at the corner of Wilkes and Kenaston. The invigorating performances have been popular and delighting crowds so much so that some shows have been held over due to demand. Tickets for Amaluna go on sale April 18. Full ticket information is here.
