Celebrating the last weeks of summer: 5 Things To Do

As we head toward back to school, the sun sets a little earlier, the lake water is a bit cooler, and that means we have to soak up as much of summer as possible!

Between mid-August and the official start of fall Winnipeg is still in full party mode so we wanted to share our favourite events of late summer. There is something for everyone (some are kid-friendly too!) so get out your calendar and add them to your list so you don’t miss out on the fun.

  1. Winnipeg Beer Festival 2019: #WpgBeerFest is an indoor and outdoor event that in 2018 raised over $3,000 for the Manitoba Brewing Association. Please note, this one is for the adults only. Here’s what to expect:
    – Samples from Winnipeg’s top brewers
    – Ticket valid for one free Poutine (regular and vegan available)
    – Liquor samples from Capital K Distillery
    – Live DJ spinning some background music and tunes
    – Voyageur games and activities
  2. Cinderella at Rainbow Stage: The new Broadway adaptation of the classical musical that will enchant children and adults alike with its warmth, charm, surprising twists and a touch of Magic! With a healthy dose of hilarity, this Tony Award winner combines the timeless songs you know and love with a fresh new take on the beloved fairy tale!
  3. Summer Music Series at the Lyric Theatre: There are few things better than spending a warm summer evening at Assiniboine Park listening to music under a beautiful summer sky. This FREE music series is part of the 2019 Casinos of Winnipeg Summer Entertainment Series.All performances at the Lyric Theatre start at 7:00 PM. Don’t forget to pop over the bridge to Sargent Sundae, of course.
  4. Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live: Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live features six all new Monster Trucks: Bone Shaker, Tiger Shark, V8 Bomber, Demo Derby, Hot Wheels Racing 1 and the original King of Monster Trucks, BIGFOOT. The stars of the show perform iconic jumps and stunts with epic crashing and smashing as they entertain fans during several competition segments within the show. In addition, each show features the high-flying talents of freestyle motocross performers Josh Headford, Cody Elkins and Brody Wilson.The Crash Zone Pre-Show Party will be open prior to all shows, giving fans a chance to come early to meet the Monster Truck drivers, get amazing close-up photos and see the unbelievable new Hot Wheels Trucks up close and in person. All patrons with a ticket to these shows are invited to the Crash Zone Pre-Show Party for free! A valid event ticket is required to enter the venue for the Crash Zone Pre-Show Party but does not guarantee entry as there is a Crash Zone event capacity, which will be monitored by the venue on event day. Entry into the Crash Zone Pre-Show Party will be on a first come, first serve basis.
  5. CIRQUE DU SOLEIL AMALUNA – A Mysterious Island Ruled by Goddesses
    A Cirque show is always a mesmerizing experience for the senses. In this latest story, after directing her daughter’s coming of age ceremony, honoring femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance, Queen Prospera causes a storm. A group of young men wash up on the isle, triggering an epic love story between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. Theirs is a love that will be tested. BONUS Events! A few more of our favourites to round out your summer include: 15th Annual Sherbrook Street Festival 2019; Rotary Ribfest Winnipeg 2019; the first annual Mess Fest; and we can’t forget Grandparents’ Day at the Manitoba Children’s Museum.
